Community Accountability Project
Monsoon (and our sister program Nisaa) have been asked by survivors/victims if we can “talk” to their husbands. What the survivors/victims wanted was for their husbands to stop the violence. The survivors/victims do not want to leave the relationship due to myriad reasons from financial to love. If we want our work to be survivor-centered, trauma-informed and community-based, we need a strategy that not only ensures that the person who did the harm is accountable but also allows prevention of future violence and healing for individuals and communities. Transformative Justice and Community Accountability embodies Monsoon’s core values and the best strategy to implement that is survivor-centered, trauma-informed and community-based.
