About Us
Monsoon Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (formerly Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa) provides comprehensive services to victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities in Iowa. Monsoon’s mission is to eradicate gender-based violence and foster healthy communities through transformative justice and meaningful social change.
Serving all 99 counties in Iowa, Monsoon offers a range of programs, including direct services, transitional housing, legal advocacy, community outreach and education, violence prevention, and technical assistance. The organization operates offices in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Dubuque. Its multilingual staff collectively speak 14 languages, ensuring culturally and linguistically responsive services.
Monsoon’s services are free and confidential. The organization is funded by the Iowa Crime Victim Assistance Division (CVAD) and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW).
