Hieu Pham is our Co-Director of Direct Services and Community Outreach. Based in Des Moines, Hieu works as an advocate, oversees victim services for Central, Western and Northwestern Iowa, conducts outreach and administers the Violence Prevention Program. She is a former journalist who worked as a government reporter for the Iowa City Press-Citizen and Agence France-Presse. Hieu immigrated to the United States as a child and refugee from Vietnam, and is passionate about such issues as the Asian American identity, community health and the immigrant diasporic experience. She has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Iowa. A mother of two toddlers, Hieu loves to read, write and seek culinary adventures whenever she manages to get away. Hieu can be reached at hieu@monsooniowa.org.
