On October 19th, Monsoon’s Community Health Outreach team honored and held space for caregivers who have endured pregnancy loss and infant loss. Attendees shared their experiences and found strength in community.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. At our weekly Elder’s Learning Series, participants have been learning ways to spot a scam and how to protect themselves from it. Elders shared real life scenarios, such as the “grandparent scam” where a caller claimed to be a relative in distress and needed money immediately.

Scammers are using technology to become more sophisticated, even targeting people in their first languages. Scams in the US can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission online at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov

On October 8, 2024, Monsoon Advocate Danya Albert conducted a tabling at the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Conference in Peosta, Iowa where she connected with service providers seeking to gain more knowledge to better assist survivors of sexual violence.

Monsoon participated at the 4th annual Dia De Los Muertos event, organized by the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on October 5, at Union Park in Des Moines. The event, honoring victims of gender-based violence, drew scores of people on a bright, sunny afternoon.
