Monsoon participated at the 4th annual Dia De Los Muertos event, organized by the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on October 5, at Union Park in Des Moines. The event, honoring victims of gender-based violence, drew scores of people on a bright, sunny afternoon.

This event is free and open to all, especially within the Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Translation and transportation services are available upon request.

Monsoon’s Personal Empowerment Series is a works

Monsoon’s Personal Empowerment Series is a workshop program aimed at providing information beneficial for clients to live more confidently in various aspects of their lives. The voluntary service model allows clients the freedom to attend sessions based on their interests or needs; and give feedback on subjects they are interested in learning more about.

Client-led discussions resulted in topics ranging from Housing Rights and Protections in Iowa to Financial Literacy, to “Know Where to Go: Navigating Healthcare” to Homebuyer Education, among others. This is a closed program offered to Monsoon clients, only.

The Mothers of Monsoon Wisdom Circle was created to foster a community between caregivers.

This morning’s Family Nature Walk was well spent, connecting with old and new friends. It took an abundance of patience and many helping hands to make it around Gray’s Lake Park but we made it! It really does take a village!
